Build a mind you’re proud of.
Past costs should not own future choices
A sunk cost is time or money already spent that cannot be recovered.
The idea
Rational decisions compare future benefits with future costs. Past effort feels important emotionally, but it does not improve a bad option going forward.
An example
Finishing a poor course only because you paid for it can waste ten more hours. The payment is gone either way; the ten hours are still yours to protect.
Put it into practice
Ask: “If I had not already invested in this, would I choose it today?”
Test yourself: What should guide a decision after money has already been spent?
Future costs and benefits
Correct. Irrecoverable past costs should not control the next decision.
