Perspective is a designed illusion
Linear perspective makes parallel lines appear to converge, creating depth on a flat surface.
The idea
The horizon corresponds roughly to eye level. Vanishing points organise receding lines, quietly determining where the viewer seems to stand.
An example
A road narrowing toward one point can pull you into the image, while a high horizon makes you feel as though you are looking down on the scene.
Put it into practice
Find the horizon and vanishing point. They reveal the position the artwork has assigned to you.
Test yourself: In linear perspective, the horizon roughly represents…
The viewer’s eye level
Correct. It helps establish where the artwork positions the viewer.
