Abstraction is not the absence of skill
Abstract art reduces, reshapes, or abandons visible reality to focus on relationships such as colour, rhythm, and form.
The idea
The artist may remove literal detail so that structure or sensation becomes the subject. Simplification can be a deliberate result of deep observation.
An example
A few curved lines can communicate movement more directly than a carefully rendered body frozen in detail.
Put it into practice
Instead of asking “What is it?”, ask “What is this arrangement making me notice or feel?”
Test yourself: Abstract art may remove literal detail in order to emphasise…
Colour, rhythm, and form
Exactly. Reduction can make structure and sensation more visible.
